Teach Us: How ‘Harmless Jokes’ Normalise Harmful Behaviour

Help us get these evidence-based, youth-led resources into high schools around Australia.
Why is sexual violence so widespread, and why does society so often minimise it?
In this powerful documentary, we unpack how seemingly harmless 'jokes', group chat banter, and everyday attitudes help normalise harmful behaviours. Featuring educators, athletes and activists, we explore the 'rape culture pyramid', bust common myths (like that false accusations are common and that men can't be assaulted), and examine how media and language shape what we think is normal.
This doco digs into how real change happens — not just by telling people “don’t rape” — but by confronting the culture that enables harm in the first place. From holding our mates accountable to examining our own attitudes, we all have a role to play in shifting the conversation and making consent culture the norm.
